Siding: Day 8

26 Jan

It’s Sunday, it’s been VERY cold all day, and it even snowed at one point! That didn’t stop the guys from putting in another 9-5 day though. Surprisingly we’re not at a full two weeks yet since they started the siding, (including the weather delays) but it certainly feels like this has been a never-ending project, and I know they’re as antsy to get done as we are to have them be done! But, we’re starting to see the light at the end of the siding, and they think they may be able to finish up tomorrow (weather pending.)

Today they did around the garage door, and front window, and finished the West side of the house. With the siding and soffits up around the garage, Jer was able to reinstall the lights that flank the garage door. We’ve been coming home to a very dark house for at least a week now, so we are pretty excited to have our lights back! The crew installed mounting blocks with the siding to provide a flat surface for the lights to be mounted to. It may be hard to see in the picture, but that’s the idea. Mounting blocks tend to be white, however we’re not a fan of that contrasting look, so we went with color-matched mounting blocks.

Here’s a look at the front:

And here’s a few pics of the side of the house …

I’m very happy with the cover they used over the lines for our central AC. When we had that installed last year (we’ll add a post about that at some point hopefully), I was pretty appalled to see a bright white pipe coming down the side of the house. When we decided to do the siding, we contacted the company that did the work to see what the cost would be to run the line through the walls of the house, rather than down the outside. They gave us a quote around $1k, which was way more than we wanted to spend. I mentioned that we were considering moving the line to our siding guys, and they were able to offer us the solution of getting an aluminum pipe to match the siding so it wouldn’t stand out. They did this at no extra charge to us, and I’m very happy with how it turned out!
