Further evidence that we are under contract…complete with quirky slogan.
There’s even a phone number there for you if you want to get in touch with a crappy real estate agency!

Crunch & Munch??

23 Dec

Big bug inspection today!

In just a few short hours we’ll know if termites, carpenter ants, or any other chomper has been havin’ at our future home Hansel & Gretel style. I’m on the edge of my seat awaiting the results. (Not really…)

Cheers!!

Creative Writing for Real Estate 101…

20 Dec

“Roomy Ranch Situated On Sprawling & Spectacular Property!! Entry Foyer, Lr W/Fireplace, Dr, Updated Eik, Full Bath, 3 Bdrms With Tons Of Closets. Part Fin Basement With Bar, Utilities, Storage And Laundry. Covered Porch, Concrete Patio, Garage, Alarm, Great Moldings, Hardwood Floors. Great Location, Wonderful Park Like Private Property.”

That’s the description of our future home. Sounds lovely, no?? Doesn’t really sound like it might be a fixer-upper…

Well it is. And we’re totally fine with that! More than fine actually! We’re excited & have tons and tons of plans for the house. Plus, it’s great to not be paying for other people’s renovations, that definitely would not be our style or vision for the house.

But, let’s just say this is a rather creative description for a house that does need work! Also, calling it roomy is taking some liberties. It isn’t crazy small, but not quite what you’d expect roomy to look like. (or maybe that’s just me… perhaps I’ve seen too many episodes of House Hunters, where the buyers were looking in Texas.)

Anywho, I will give them the sprawling property part. It is a half acre, and in this area and our price range, that really is sprawling. That was a huge selling point for us. We’d never encountered a house with this much property. Can you call it spectacular? Not yet… But it does have potential!

So here’s the pictures from the listing. We’ll take and post a bunch of our own (for before & after purposes) once we get in!

Entry Foyer, Lr W/Fireplace

Dining Room

The “updated” EIK. I guess because the kitchen has been updated from the 1956 original kitchen, you could call it updated….

Full bath, which actually is in good shape. Kohler toilet & sink. I’ll post a pic later on to show you the shower head, because when we first saw it we didn’t even know what we were looking at! We thought it was makeshift plumbing. Turns out it’s some sort of shower head upgrade, with water jets on the side. Weird!

3 bedrooms with “tons” of closets….. 3 bedrooms, and each has a closet. But, compared to the 3 closets TOTAL in my old apartment in Astoria, I suppose it does have tons of closets! Sweet!!

“Part Fin Basement With Bar, Utilities, Storage And Laundry”. It’s an UNfinished basement, and there’s a reason the listing did not include pictures of said bar. Pics of the “bar” & basement to follow!!

Covered Porch – Yes

Concrete Patio – Yes

Garage – Yes

Alarm – Yes

Great Moldings – Yeah, they’re not bad… Great??

Hardwood Floors – YES! Personally, I’m surprised they didn’t put more emphasis on the floors because they are quite nice!

Great Location, Wonderful Park Like Private Property – Yup! Check out these backyard pics, makes me want to get a pooch!!!

So, that was the listing (more or less) that sparked our interest in initially seeing the house!

And, in keeping you abreast of our status, we submitted our mortgage application last week, so we’re “in the system”. Now, we’re waiting on our letter of commitment, which, in theory, is coming by the end of this week.

Blogging on the BlackBerry

15 Dec

Well I finally got WordPress working on my BB. I’m not nearly as excited as Jer was about its availability on the iphone… Took quite some doing and I had to delete a bunch of apps I had downloaded including my Staples “that was easy button”, Sit or Squat bathroom finder, and The Office “That’s what she said” app. Hopefully I’ll be able to get by without them…

Now, whilst on set I can tell you about our mortgage application signing last night.. Basically it’s a bunch of mumbo-jumbo (BB doesn’t believe that’s a word) with about a thousand places to sign. Seriously, one page had 4 things to sign.. Stuff like, yes we have money to buy a house, yes we plan to live in this house, no we’re not terrorists (hopefully that didn’t just get this blog flagged), etc., etc…

Jer still wants a signature stamp but our lawyer’s not into it.

In addition to all that signing, there were A LOT of corrections we had to make. We do have confidence in our mortgage dude, so we’re gonna assume he rushed to get us the documents ASAP, and is not completely insane.

The highlight of the corrections that needed to be made was the box that declared Jer to be a Native American/Pacific Islander. We also had to correct the box declaring us married, and our address which was listed incorrectly in almost as many places as our required signatures.

Nevertheless, we mustered through! And I may or may not have messed up the whole thing by signing in the wrong place a few times, but we shall see!

Pending!

Got this picture from the real estate site we use for house hunting. The yellow “P” means a sale is pending!!!

In the past, seeing this “P” appear on other house listings we were interested in was always such a huge disappointment, especially if we never even got to see the house in person. But today it’s pure excitement!!!

For some reason, this makes everything seem real! (Even more than the huge check we had to write when we signed the contract!)

iphone blogging is live

Well, now that I have installed the wordpress app, I can make blog posts right from my phone without having to sit down at the computer I may actually contribute to this thing!

I might be watching Holmes on Homes and get an idea and just blog it up!

Nice!

Greetings & Salutations!!!

13 Dec

Welcome to Corinne & Jeremy’s new-home blog! We’re not bloggers (yet), but we are soon going to be first-time home owners, and shortly after, home renovators. We’ve already had a lot of interest from friends and family regarding our real estate adventures, and figured this would be a fun way to share them with you!

Before we even started trying to pick an official layout for the blog (gonna stick with the Xmas one for now anyway), we decided we wouldn’t officially publish anything until we were in contract….

SO if you are reading this, BIG NEWS: We are in contract to buy our first house!!!!!

Really not much else to report just yet… We signed contracts, the seller signed the contracts, now on to getting the mortgage!! We did the pre-qualify thing, so hopefully this part of the process will be smooth sailing (::gulp::). We currently have an “on or around” February 3, 2011 closing date, but are hoping to do it sometime in January, fingers crossed!

In the meantime, while we “patiently” wait for all of the paperwork to go through, we figure we can keep ourselves occupied here with some backstory on our house hunting, and any other home-related topics that may pop into our heads.

One request of anyone who does have any interest in following our blog…. Please, as much as they’d be appreciated, no congrats on the house stuff until we actually close on it! We’ve quickly discovered that there’s SO much more than just having our offer accepted, (despite what you may have seen on House Hunters) that we don’t want to do any celebrating until the whole thing is officially official!

Here’s a little peek of our future home:
